To Mt. Antero...Almost

We took a nice day trip to Mt. Antero which is near Buena Vista, Colorado. Chris was excited to do some off-roading with our Jeep and this trail was supposedly rated "EASY" and we have been on some "easy" trails before so we were pumped to drive up to Mt. Antero, one of the 14ers (over 14,000 ft).
At the start of the trail and it didn't look "easy" but Chris was sure we could make it. I was very hesitant and worried for our Jeep because the trail was narrow and full of large stones. It was a VERY rough ride and of course Chris was having a ball! Not me because we hit bottom a few times. The trail seemed to get worse and finally we found a spot to turn around. It seemed like forever coming down the mountain. So unfortunately we didn't make it to the top of the mountain. It was at least an hour drive up to the top.

After all of that bumpy riding we stopped at St. Elmo's ghost town to stretch our legs. We heard of another trail while at St. Elmo's that was shorter and again supposedly much easier than the Mt. Antero trail. Pictures are further down for that trail.

Part of the trail up to Mt. Antero. The trail looks worse than this! Not as easy as it looks. You definitely need a vehicle specifically rigged for this trail. A lot of ATVs were going up and down.
A trail we drove near St. Elmo's. Not much easier than the first one. Another driver coming down warned us that further up we may not have enough clearance under our Jeep so we decided to turn around. I unfortunately got a little car sick on the way down.We made it up to the timberline area on the 2nd trail (I forgot what that trail is called). It felt soooo good being up in the mountains. The temperature was nice and COOL! We saw a little bit of wildlife too, some young deer, and an elk.
